(Baonghean.vn) - Mr. Le Van Nam in Nghia Lac commune, Nghia Dan district, from 8 pairs of breeding rabbits initially, now has more than 30 pairs of breeding rabbits and 70 pairs of meat rabbits, earning more than a civil servant's salary.

As a farming family, after finishing high school, Mr. Le Van Nam (born in 1993) learned about rabbit farming techniques through books and newspapers. He realized that rabbits are adaptable to local climate and soil conditions, so he invested in buying 8 pairs of breeding rabbits. Up to now, he has had over 30 pairs of breeding rabbits and 70 pairs of meat rabbits, earning an income of 5 to 6 million VND/month. What is special is that he chose the New Zealand rabbit breed in Ninh Binh.

This is a rabbit breed that has many advantages over other common rabbit breeds such as the ability to grow and develop quickly, reproduce a lot, and have delicious meat.

In the early days, he had no experience and suffered many losses, but Mr. Nam was not discouraged and continued to raise the fish, gradually gaining experience.

According to Mr. Nam, the investment cost of raising rabbits is not high, the cage is quite simple, only made of bamboo or iron mesh, but must be high and clean, cool in the summer, warm in the winter. Rabbits are easy to raise, reproduce and develop quickly, from birth to sale only takes 2.5 - 3 months, rarely get sick, usually rabbits only get scabies, fungus, digestive disorders, so the risk is low.

Rabbits' main food is bran, grass, green vegetables, and some available tubers and fruits. Rabbits eat two main meals, morning and noon, and are fed grass at night; they are vaccinated once every 5 months. For breeding rabbits, breeders must monitor them regularly. When the female rabbit is pregnant, the amount of food and the growth process of the rabbit must be adjusted. Normally, a female rabbit gives birth to 5-7 litters per year, each litter has 6-7 baby rabbits.

Currently, the market price of breeding rabbits is 300,000 VND/pair; commercial rabbits raised from the time they are weaned until they are sold weigh about 3.5 - 4 kg. Each month, his family sells 4.5 - 5 nests of commercial rabbits to the market; at the price of 120,000 VND/kg of meat rabbit, after deducting expenses, the income is more than 5 million VND/month.

It is known that to stabilize the output of the product, Mr. Nam proactively finds sources of supply for restaurants, hotels, etc. in the district and town, so the output is quite stable.

From the rabbit farming model of Mr. Le Van Nam's family, currently in Nghia Lac commune, 5 rabbit farming models have been expanded. Compared to other livestock in rural areas, rabbits are one of the animals that are easy to raise and bring about quite good economic efficiency.

Mr. Ha Van Tam - Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nghia Lac commune said that this is a typical agricultural economic model of the commune that needs to be replicated, because raising rabbits requires relatively low investment capital, easy-to-find food sources, requires little care and provides stable income.
