Nghe An native boy won gold medal at 2012 International Math Olympiad
(Baonghean)This year, the Vietnamese team at the International Mathematics Olympiad achieved impressive results, ranking 9th overall with 1 Gold Medal, 3 Silver Medals, and 2 Bronze Medals (ranked 31st in 2011).
The good news is that the only student to win the Gold Medal is a young man from Nghe An - Dau Hai Dang, a student at the High School for the Gifted, Hanoi National University of Education.
Witnessing the moment of waiting for his son to return home with glory at Noi Bai airport from 4am on July 18, 2012, Mr. Dau Dang Doanh, from Nghi Xuan commune - Nghi Loc, currently the Director of the Science and Technology Printing Joint Stock Company (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) could not hide the joy in his eyes when his only son had won the Gold Medal: "He likes to read Math books, fiction books, science books, and computers. But his passion for Math is the greatest."
Continuing, Ms. Dinh Hoai Thanh, from Quynh Doi - Quynh Luu, currently a Literature teacher at Nguyen Tat Thanh Semi-Public High School, Hanoi Pedagogical University, said: "When he was young, Dang was very naughty, many times making his mother cry because he broke everything in the house from the TV remote to the computer. Since 8th grade, his personality has gradually changed, he knows how to listen better...".
Both Mr. Doanh and Mrs. Thanh said that Dang is not an easy person to accept. He always argues with his parents and everyone else to the end, so he has the nickname "Cu tranh". Mr. Doanh often has to "sweat profusely" to use all his experience and knowledge to explain and satisfy his son's curiosity and thirst for knowledge.
When we congratulated him and asked about his future path, Dang said decisively: "I will definitely continue to pursue the path of studying Mathematics."
Mr. Doanh and Mrs. Thanh added that, in addition to Mathematics, Dau Hai Dang also plays the organ very well (winning First Prize in the competition for primary school students in the Northern provinces). They also expressed their joy when their son won the International Mathematics Gold Medal, promoting the tradition of studiousness, good study, overcoming difficulties to rise up of his hometown Nghe An, of the two clans and family...
