Celebrate the traditional New Year Bun Pimay (Laos) and Songkran (Thailand)

This afternoon, April 14, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association in collaboration with Vinh University organized a meeting to celebrate the traditional New Year Bun Pi May 2013 (2556 according to the Buddhist calendar) of the Lao people and Songkran of the Thai people. Attending the ceremony were Comrade Luong Quang Kinh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee - Head of the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Nghe An province; Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Dinh Phuong - Vice Principal of the school.

The traditional New Year of Laos and Thailand, Bun Pi May and Songkran, are the biggest festivals that bring good luck and peace for the whole year, lasting for 3 days.

Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Luong Quang Kinh sent his best wishes for success and happiness to all overseas students in particular and the Lao ethnic people and Thai people in general. He also hoped that Lao and Thai overseas students would try their best to study well to become talented people, contributing to building a beautiful country, fostering the special friendship between the two Parties and States of Vietnam and Laos as well as the solidarity and friendship between the people of Vietnam and Thailand.

Currently, there are 308 Lao students from 12 provinces of Lao PDR and 19 Thai students studying at Vinh University, distributed in 36 majors and 16 training departments. Over the past 10 years, the school has trained nearly 850 Lao and Thai students, including 5 graduating classes.
