(Baonghean.vn) - This is the reality happening in many schools in the mountainous districts of Nghe An. This also easily leads to many risks in preventing and fighting the Covid-19 epidemic, insecurity and even worrying problems for adolescents.

These shabby, dimly lit houses are the boarding house for nearly 1,200 students of Ky Son High School. The students here are all ethnic minorities from remote villages of the district. Photo: Duc Anh

In each rented room of less than 8 square meters, there are usually 3-4 students renting together at a price of more than 500,000 VND/month. The amount of money is not much, but for students who are mainly from poor and near-poor households, having money to go to school is not easy. Photo: Duc Anh

Student Moong Van Trong, class 10 C4 (living in Hat Ta Ven village, Keng Du commune, Ky Son district), 86km from school, the road to get there is extremely difficult. Trong's family situation is very difficult, he is a poor household. Every month when going to school, in addition to the State's support for ethnic minority students under Regime 116 (more than 700,000 VND/month), Trong receives an additional 200,000 VND/month from his family. With this small amount of money, he has to save up to have enough for food, living expenses, books, etc. Photo: Duc Anh

Hoa Van Hong, class 10C9 (living in Na Nhu village, Ta Ca commune) is also a disadvantaged student. Although she loves to study, Hong also admits that "we cannot concentrate on studying because the room is too small, there are too many people and there is not enough space to put a table". Taking advantage of the time when other students are in class, Hong sets up a temporary chair and puts her books on the bed to study. Photo: Duc Anh

There are often both male and female students in the boarding houses. They live far from their families, so they get used to an independent life early. However, this also has many potential risks and consequences of adolescence. There are years when this school has dozens of students dropping out of school to get married. Retaining a female student from an ethnic minority is really difficult because at this age, many students in the mountainous communes of Ky Son district have "left the game to follow their husbands".
These are two students from Hop Thanh village (Xa Luong commune, Tuong Duong district). Since this school year, the students in this village have been cut off from the special difficult village regime, so they are not allowed to stay at the school. Out of sympathy for the students, the Board of Directors of Xa Luong Secondary School for Ethnic Minority Students has given the row of level 4 houses behind the school for the students to stay for free. However, the students have to pay for their own food and accommodation. Life away from home for these 13-14 year old students is very difficult, because each month their parents only support about 100,000 VND. The students get rice from home, and their main food is dry food. Photo: My Ha
Hờ Y Phượng năm nay mới vào lớp 6 nhưng em đã phải tự lập.
Ho Y Phuong is only in 6th grade this year, but she has to be independent. The kitchen is located right in the dormitory room, which poses many potential safety risks, but this is the only solution for students who live far away like Y Phuong to still be able to go to school. Photo: My Ha
Each dormitory has 5 students, each student has a rice cooker. But usually, the older students will cook for the younger students. The meals of students who live far from home are often very frugal. Sometimes the teachers have to support them with extra food. Currently, the dormitory of Xa Luong Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities has 32 students living there. Meanwhile, many students with difficult circumstances have had to drop out of school because they cannot afford to live far from home. Photo: My Ha

Currently, many schools in Nghe An are still struggling with the problem of implementing policies for boarding students or students who stay to study. Most recently, Ky Son High School has received investment from a business to build a high-rise boarding house for teachers and students. This will be good news for students here and also the dream of parents and teachers in this remote and difficult area. Photo: Duc Anh
