Recently, the list of spam distribution in the first quarter of this year has shown that Asia is the new "land" of this problem with the distribution rate accounting for 35.1% of the total amount of spam worldwide.

Coming in second place is Europe with 32%, followed by North America with only 17.3%.

Thus, Europe has ceded its number one position to the world's most populous continent.

On a national scale, the US remains the top country in terms of spam email, with a rate of 13.7%.

"Spammers are still making money from their evil work, and spam will continue to be a global problem," said Graham Cluley, an expert from security firm Sophos.

"Today, many computer users are threatened by the possibility of being infected with malware and becoming part of a network of computers that are being controlled to 'secretly' send automated spam," the expert added.

To ensure they don't fall victim, people need to keep their computer security software up to date and be determined not to buy products advertised in spam emails, advises Graham Cluley.

Another interesting thing in Sophos' research is that the growing popularity of mobile platforms and social networks is a favorable condition for spam to spread.
