June 8, 2013 14:46

(Baonghean.vn) - To prepare irrigation water for the 2013 summer-autumn crop, on June 7 and 8, at Xet 2 village, Chau Thang commune, Quy Chau, they started dredging and repairing the Na Ngai irrigation canal.

The Na Ngai irrigation dam project in Ban Xet 2 is one of three irrigation dams in Chau Thang commune invested by the district. The canal is designed to run along the steep mountainside so it is often buried in sand.

To ensure irrigation water for 23 hectares of rice fields in Ban Xet 2 and 4 other villages, the commune has to annually invest funds and mobilize labor days from the people in the village to conduct dredging and repair. This time, in addition to 2 tons of cement provided by the district, the people of Ban Xet 2 contributed a total of more than 200 labor days to conduct dredging, carrying sand and gravel to repair nearly 300 meters of canal.

After dredging, people repaired and reinforced the ditch to limit water loss.

Thanks to good irrigation, in the last winter-spring crop, Chau Thang commune planted 103.7 hectares of rice and harvested 411.6 tons of paddy, of which nearly 73 hectares of hybrid rice yielded 5.2 tons/ha, and 31 hectares of pure rice yielded 4.5 tons/ha.
