Major fire at Western Europe's largest mosque
Yesterday afternoon (local time), a major fire broke out at the mosque said to be the largest in Western Europe.
According to local police, the fire broke out at 11:30 a.m. yesterday at the Baitul Futuh mosque in south London, England. Flames shot up from the first floor of the building and created a large column of smoke.

Shortly after the fire broke out, about 70 firefighters and 10 fire engines were mobilized to the scene. Philip Morton - Fire Captain said: "When we arrived, the fire was high and engulfed the entire ground floor of the building. The firefighters acted very urgently, they almost controlled the fire on the ground floor"
Police also evacuated everyone from the burning cathedral and blocked off some roads in the area. Some media reported that an injured man was taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation.
British authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
Baitul Futuh Mosque was built in 2003 with a capacity of about 10,000 worshippers. This mosque is a meeting place and a place to organize religious events for the Muslim community.
