Although the details of the contract were not announced, according to the British press, the Stamford Bridge club had to pay about 18 million pounds (28 million USD).
Schurrle began his career at Mainz, before moving to Leverkusen in 2011. Here, the 22-year-old striker had the opportunity to show his ability with 18 goals in 65 appearances. Schurrle was also one of the key factors helping Leverkusen rise to 3rd place in the Bundesliga rankings this season (scoring 11 goals, assisting 6 in 35 matches).
Since 2008, he has been a regular in the German U19, German U21 and German national teams. After a total of 38 matches, Schurrle has scored 22 goals.
The signing of Schurrle is considered Mourinho's first step towards helping Chelsea regain their position in the Premier League.
Besides the advantage of inheriting talented young players such as Eden Hazard, Oscar or Victor Moses, the Portuguese strategist is facing a number of pillars who are losing form, notably striker Fernando Torres. The Spanish striker has only scored 22 goals in 64 matches for "The Blues."
According to information from the British press, Mourinho is ready to let Torres leave in the "near future"./.
