Chelsea and Manchester United compete for Luka Modric
According to the latest information from the British press, both Manchester United and Chelsea are considering Tottenham's playmaker Luka Modric as their top target in the summer transfer window.
This season, Modric has grown significantly in Tottenham's shirt. Modric's brilliance and excellent form, along with Rafael van der Vaart and Gareth Bale, are among the most important factors helping Tottenham reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League and win 5th place in the Premier League table.
Modric (shirt number 14) has matured significantly in Tottenham's shirt.
Although coach Harry Redknapp is keen to keep the 25-year-old midfielder, because Tottenham cannot qualify for the Champions League next season, it is likely that Modric will consider leaving to join a team participating in Europe's most prestigious tournament.
Chelsea are currently in dire need of recruiting a world-class playmaker to replace veteran Frank Lampard and Modric is one of the top players on the London team's recruitment list in the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson really likes Modric's playing style and wants to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford to fill the void left by Paul Scholes after his retirement.
To convince Tottenham's Board of Directors to "release" the player, Sir Alex will likely use striker Dimitar Berbatov as part of the contract to recruit Modric.
