Hacked someone to death, sentenced to 20 years in prison

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 17, the Provincial People's Court brought the case of Tran Van Duc (born 1962, residing in Vinh Son commune, Anh Son district) for murder to the first instance trial.

According to the prosecution of the People's Procuracy, Mr. Duc's crime was as follows: on the evening of August 7, 2014, a man named Trung (living in the same commune as Mr. Duc) carried bricks and dumped them on the road in front of Mr. Duc's house in Hamlet 6, Vinh Son Commune to prepare for building a ditch. He asked some people to clear the pile of bricks to make way for people to travel. Nguyen Huu Doan (born in 1992, living in Hamlet 1, Vinh Son) also participated.

Doan thought that the bricks belonged to Mr. Duc, so he called him down to clean them up. Mr. Duc was eating in the house at the time, came out, and said that the bricks were not his, so he did not join in cleaning them up with everyone. Doan repeated his request several times, making Mr. Duc angry. Mr. Duc went into the house, took out a knife, stood next to Doan, and said, "Don't challenge each other. Your uncle is still walking around. Everyone coming home from work is hot these days." Hearing Mr. Duc say that, Doan challenged him. Mr. Duc slashed Doan's neck.

After committing the crime, Mr. Duc calmly pulled out the knife, cleaned it, and went home to put it away. The slash cut the victim's left artery and jugular vein, causing severe blood loss and death on the spot. At 10 p.m. that same night, Mr. Duc was arrested by Anh Son District Police.

At the trial, the defendant Duc confessed his crimes and showed remorse. After considering all the evidence, the panel sentenced Tran Van Duc to 20 years in prison. In addition, the defendant must compensate the victim’s family 94 million VND for mental damage and funeral expenses.
