Only 10% of food additives are produced in Vietnam
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong - Deputy Director of the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene said that Vietnam currently allows the use of 23 groups of food additives including 337 substances (including flavorings).
Food additives are sold everywhere in the market.
However, only 5-10% of food additives are produced in Vietnam, the rest are imported, of which 30% of food additives originate from China.
What is worrying, according to Mr. Phong, is that there are many floating and smuggled food additives (especially imported from China), but they are often used in small processing and retail establishments, so the authorities cannot count or control them.
