"It only took 9 months to film 3 new Avatar parts"

Avatar still holds the title of the number one grossing movie of all time, making director James Cameron decide to shoot not just one but three sequels and they will be shot back to back. Recently, the main actress Zoe Saldana revealed that the filming time for all three James Cameron movies only lasted about 8 to 9 months. That is, on average, about 3 months/movie. This is a record filming time compared to the first Avatar movie: conceived for more than ten years, completed in nearly 4 years.

Zoe Saldana appeared at Comic-Con to promote Guardians of the Galaxy. She said she had finished filming Marvel's Phase 2 film, so she could return to Pandora soon.

Although unable to provide any detailed information about the 3 new Avatar movies, Zoe Saldana also revealed the filming schedule, confirmed the location of the film's production, as well as the director's request to focus all of her time on recording motion capture for the character.

She said: "James Cameron is still working on the final drafts of the script and then all the cast will be called in. We will be shooting mainly in Los Angeles and this will make things easier for me because I live there. Since we are shooting three films back to back, it will take at least eight or nine months to complete three films."

According to the New York Times, the three upcoming Avatar films have different writing teams. Rick Jaffta and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) are writing Avatar 2; Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) is in charge of Avatar 3; and Avatar 4 will be handled by Shane Salerno (Armageddon, Savages). Both Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno have worked with James Cameron on previous works. Josh Friedman worked on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; and Shane Salerno worked on Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem.

If all goes according to plan, Avatar 2 will hit theaters in November 2016, Avatar 3 in December 2017, and Avatar 4 in November 2018. The script is currently in the final stages and filming is expected to begin later this year.
