On November 21, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial against Tho Ba Cha (born 1998), residing in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district, Nghe An province, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
Accordingly, at the end of May 2023, while going to the market, Tho Ba Cha met a man named Va Ba Va (introducing a house in Laos). At about 8:00 p.m. on June 6, Va went to Tho Ba Cha's house to play and then stayed overnight. During this time, Va asked Cha to deliver a package of drugs to a friend and promised to pay 3 million VND when the job was done and Cha agreed.
At about 4:00 a.m. on June 7, Tho Ba Cha and Va walked along the forest path to deliver drugs. At about 10:00 a.m., when they reached Highway 16, Va gave Cha 10 small packages of drugs and told him to go down to the roadside and someone would receive them.
As instructed, Cha put the drugs in his pocket and then went down to the street to wait for the drug delivery. At this time, the Thai Hoa City Police working group met him, checked him and discovered that he had drugs on him (with a quantity of 183.72 grams).
At the trial, Tho Ba Cha confessed his crime. He justified his crime by saying that he was in difficult circumstances.
The People's Procuracy proposed a 20-year sentence, but Cha asked the jury to reduce his sentence so he could return home soon to raise his three children.
