The 'key' to escaping poverty in Don Cham village
(Baonghean.vn) -From barren land, ineffective rice cultivation, now nchange economic development thinking, people inDon Cham village, Muong Noc commune, Que Phong district has turned this land into a green, clean vegetable growing area.
Don Cham village, Muong Noc commune (Que Phong) is a Thai village. Previously, this land was an abandoned field, barren land, and ineffective rice cultivation. After carefully studying the climate and soil conditions of the village, Que Phong district directed the integration of programs and projects, in which the New Rural Development source is the main force to promote vegetable cultivation to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.

From the production support fund of the National New Rural Development Program, initially, Que Phong district invested in seeds, techniques, built a 20 m3 water tank system, water taps leading to vegetable gardens; a 1,000 m electric wire system and protective fences on an area of over 32,000 m2. Agricultural Department staff also went to the villages to instruct people on how to effectively care for crops.

Currently, Don Cham village has 32 households registered with the district's agricultural production and service cooperative to participate in building a clean vegetable growing model.
The climate and soil conditions in Ban Don Cham are very suitable for growing vegetables: kohlrabi, green mustard, cucumber, green beans, cabbage. People do not let the land rest, the previous crop follows the next crop. In particular, many types of vegetables grown on Don Cham soil grow strongly, such as the average cabbage plant weighs about 0.4 kg/plant.

Mr. Lu Van Tien - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Que Phong district said: After the first harvest, the new model was evaluated by the people as developing well, suitable for local conditions, with economic efficiency 3 times higher than rice cultivation. Therefore, the first vegetable crop brought in an income of nearly 20 million VND/household. The clean vegetable growing model has gradually brought many socio-economic improvements to Don Cham village, and is confidently called the "key" to escaping poverty by the people.
