(Baonghean.vn) - Existing for thousands of years of history, Can Linh Pagoda in Cua Nam Ward, Vinh City is preserving a system of ancient, diverse Buddha statues with high artistic value.

According to legend, Can Linh Pagoda was built in the pre-Le Dynasty, 9th century. Initially, the pagoda was called Linh Van Tu, later called Can Linh Pagoda, and popularly known as Su Nu Pagoda. The pagoda is located on a high, airy land, with the Con Moc River flowing through to the East and South. Previously, the pagoda had the following architectures: Tam Quan gate, worshiping hall, main hall, monk's hall, left and right wing house...

The temple has been renovated and embellished many times, changing its appearance compared to before.

Can Linh Pagoda still preserves many ancient artifacts, including nearly 100 statues, diverse in types (Buddha statues, saints, monks...), designs, and sizes. The Buddha statues are arranged according to type such as Buddha Shakyamuni statue, Buddha Quan Am statue...

Over the long period of existence, the ancient statues have deteriorated, broken, and peeled, so the pagoda has had them repainted and gilded. Compared to many pagodas in the province, the ancient statues at Can Linh Pagoda are quite diverse in type, size, and style.

In particular, some ancient statues of artistic value are still kept intact.

In the newly inaugurated main hall, many ancient and rare statues have been worshiped in solemn positions. A typical example is the Buddha's birthday statue standing in the middle of a circle of nine dragons, which is intricately carved and sculpted.

The statues of the Three Worlds with traditional beauty are elaborately painted and worshiped at the highest place in the main hall, still radiating the benevolent and compassionate beauty of Buddha.

Most special is the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, about 1.2 m high, carved from jackfruit wood, sitting in meditation on a lotus throne, the left hand resting on the thigh, the right hand raised high. The statue is painted with red lacquer and gilded, worshiped in the center of the upper hall. According to nun Thich Dieu Nhan - abbot of Can Linh pagoda: This is a beautiful, rare ancient statue of the pagoda. The statue has value in many aspects: culture, history, sculpture art...

In addition, the pagoda also preserves an ancient bell over 300 years old and valuable ancient Buddhist scriptures written in Chinese characters.
