Admire the biggest meteor shower of the year in the early morning of August 13
Vietnamese astronomy lovers will be able to admire the Perseus meteor shower - one of the two biggest meteor showers of the year - on the night of August 12 and early morning of August 13.
Dang Vu Tuan Son, President of the Vietnam Young Astronomers Association (VACA), said the Perseus meteor shower is caused by debris left behind by the comet Swift-Tuttle in Earth's orbit. It can reach 50-100 meteors per hour at its peak.

In areas with clear skies, this year is an ideal time to observe this phenomenon as the peak of this meteor shower occurs on June 28-29 (Lunar calendar) so it is not obstructed by moonlight.
According to Mr. Son, the entire Perseus meteor shower phenomenon takes place from July 17 to August 24, with its peak in the early mornings of August 12, 13 and 14.
To observe, in the early morning of these days (after 1am), astronomy lovers need to look up to the Northeast sky. Observers do not need any supporting tools, but need to avoid places with lights, need to choose a place with a wide, high viewing angle.
However, if it is raining or cloudy, observation will not be possible. Therefore, Mr. Son recommends that those who do not have experience in observing should look up to the Northeast sky, if they cannot count a few dozen stars, they should not continue with their intention of observing the meteor shower.
