The war in Ukraine continues to be tense.

On Facebook, Ukraine's "Azov" brigade said on February 13 that a tank battle had taken place in the village of Shirokino on the outskirts of Mariupol.

The announcement reads: "Currently, in Shirokino, a tank battle is taking place between the Azov brigade and terrorists."

Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian soldiers launched an attack on the village of Shirokino in Donetsk province.

According to the press service of the Azov brigade, on the morning of February 12, fierce fighting took place on the Shirokino-Sahanka road in the northeast of Mariupol.

"The situation is tense. The enemy is trying to counterattack under the cover of artillery and tanks. They are using everything they have: tanks, self-propelled guns, mortars and multiple rocket launchers. The enemy infantry was destroyed on the outskirts of Shirokino and suffered heavy losses," the agency stressed.

In another development, Russia's LifeNews TV channel reported that separatist militias had shelled a Ukrainian army ammunition depot in Debaltsevo, sending up a column of black smoke that lasted for hours. Militants also destroyed a Ukrainian armed forces command and control vehicle near Svetlodarsk.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army continued its offensive to open a corridor to Debaltsevso. Ukrainian infantry and armored columns, moving in the direction of Logvinova from Svetlodarsk as well as on the Debaltsevo-Artemovsk highway from Debaltsevo, were repelled by militia tanks.

These latest clashes took place after the parties signed a comprehensive ceasefire that will take effect from February 15./.
