Victory on April 30 and lessons for today
Vietnamese intelligence, bravery, will, strong belief in victory and solidarity for the sacred ideal of the whole nation..., all were clearly and vividly demonstrated in the victory of April 30.
Through this historic victory, we also learned many lessons about building trust in national history and the responsibility of young people to the people and the Fatherland. That is the affirmation of historian Nguyen Khac Thuan, Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies (Binh Duong University).

According to historian Nguyen Khac Thuan, the historic victory of Spring 1975, as many documents have concluded, was “a victory of Vietnamese intelligence, bravery and will”. This is a scientific conclusion, reflecting the hard work and intelligence of many researchers at home and abroad. The victory of April 30 demonstrated the intelligence of the Vietnamese people, intelligence serving a noble ideal, an ideal reflecting the humanity of the entire community.
In many research works, many books, scientists, historical witnesses emphasize the power of belief in the historic victory of April 30, creating the decisive factor of the great victory. We have a strong belief that we will win. The whole nation has a belief that if we are united, we will definitely win.
Nearly 40 years have passed since the historic victory of April 30, but it seems that the further away time goes, the more we realize the valuable lessons of this victory. According to historian Nguyen Khac Thuan, the above lessons are very practical for the current industrialization, modernization and international integration. We are striving to move forward with new intelligence, new will, and determination to bring Vietnam up to par with developed countries.
Today, there is another lesson that we need to promote when looking back at the April 30 Victory. That is the lesson of solidarity and unanimity. Today, too, if we want to move forward, we must unite. Each person has a contribution, each person has a position, but all come together to form a Vietnamese intelligence in building and developing the country. Historian Nguyen Khac Thuan believes that in order for young people to understand the historical milestones such as the April 30 Victory, the way of teaching and learning history needs to be innovated, to ignite pride in thousands of years of history so that everyone can be proud.
The historical milestones and glorious events of the nation must be conveyed to posterity with pride. Teaching history must show the youth throughout the glorious events what pride this nation has left for posterity and with that pride what they have done to be worthy of their ancestors.
Historian Nguyen Khac Thuan emphasized that participating in disseminating the history and values of the nation requires the role of literature and art. We have seen that young people warmly welcomed war diaries such as "Forever Twenty", "Dang Thuy Tram's Diary", films "Don't Burn", "The Scent of Burning Grass"... We should use literature, art and film to contribute to fanning the love for the nation's history. A good film, a good script, a good work will have a strong impact on an entire nation, on an entire generation. We need to mobilize all the intelligence of people working in many different fields, from cinema, music, to painting, theater... to create confidence in this nation in the challenging process of development like today.
Historian Nguyen Khac Thuan noted that we should not understand mobilization as the responsibility of national managers, but first of all from each and every person, to be aware of their responsibility to the country, their responsibility to history, not only today but forever tomorrow.
