New target attack tactics of Vietnam's S-300PMU1
The S-300PMU1 is Vietnam's most advanced air defense missile system, so combat training with creative fighting methods is always highly valued.
The Air Defense - Air Force Service has just held a workshop on "Researching the combat methods of the S-300 air defense missile force with new combat objects".
According to the Air Defense newspaper, given the importance of the S-300PMU1 air defense missile to the new combat target, along with direct presentations at the Workshop, the Organizing Committee received more than 30 presentations from generals and scientists inside and outside the Army.
The workshop generally analyzed a number of issues regarding the combat capabilities of the S-300PMU1 air defense missile force to deal with new combat targets.
Research on force arrangement, combat formation, application of tactics, combat methods, and development of combat methods of S-300PMU1 air defense missiles against new combat targets.

Speaking at the workshop, Major General Nguyen Quang Tuyen - Deputy Commander of the Air Defense - Air Force Service said: "To win against an opponent with stronger potential, it requires research and solving many issues about the art of warfare in general, and the art of air defense warfare in particular.
In particular, research on the use of S-300PMU1 air defense missile force at the right time, on the right target... to fully exploit technical features, tactics and combat capabilities; focus on attacking the enemy in the main direction, on the main target, at the decisive moment, contributing significantly to defeating the enemy's air firepower attack, firmly protecting the assigned target".
According to the Air Defense newspaper, not only researching new fighting methods, Vietnam has also been self-sufficient in repairing and upgrading the 36D6 sensor of the S-300PMU1 system. This work is carried out by Factory A29 (Technical Department).
To complete the repair and upgrade of 36D6, the Factory has invested in a number of new generation equipment repair equipment such as: Failure diagnosis testing equipment (Vector - M16); 36D6 radar technical maintenance station (MTO); means of measuring and controlling parameters of new equipment.
Thanks to these devices, from 2014 to present, the Factory has inspected and repaired 19 modules of the S-300PMU1 missile system; KASTA-2E2 radar and especially 7 modules of the state-of-the-art 36D6 radar system.
Starting from the end of 2016, the Factory received and put into operation the ATK electronic circuit board failure diagnostic equipment from Belarus. This equipment will contribute to improving the capacity to inspect and repair modules of new technology equipment.
According to the manufacturer, the 36D6 is one of the most modern airspace surveillance and warning radar systems available today. It is designed to be used as part of an integrated air defense system.
The station is tasked with detecting targets with small radar cross section (RCS) flying at low and very low altitudes in environments with strong active and passive interference. The 36D6 station can operate independently in the role of airspace surveillance to detect friendly and enemy targets, low and very low flying targets.
In particular, the 36D6 radar station is capable of providing target parameters for air defense missile systems, supporting missile guidance. It can act as a reconnaissance and targeting system for the S-300PMU1/2 air defense missile.
The advantage of the 36D6 radio is its high resistance to active and passive interference. Targets are processed through a raw data processing device that allows the elimination of false targets in cluttered environments.
Next, the digital processor will allow for accurate target detection with all 3 parameters. The radar can process 120 targets at the same time, of which 30-60 targets are processed in automatic mode.
Target data is displayed on the screen in the form of numeric characters, making it easier for the operating crew to read target data. The 36D6 station can be remotely controlled during operation, an integrated test system will allow to detect and eliminate technical errors of the system.
