Free screening of 29 works at Vietnam Film Festival 2017

The film week to celebrate the 20th festival takes place from November 8 to 14 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Of the 29 films screened, 16 were competing at the 2017 Vietnam Film Festival, 12 were part of the "Panorama Film Program" within the festival, and one film was competing for the "ASEAN Film" award (see list).

The works in the film week are diverse in genre, from comedies (Saigon Bodyguard, The Fairy with Five Houses), horror films (Family Curse, Haunted Hospital) to art films (Island of the Refugees, Father Carrying Son). Many works are the debut films of directors such as Island of the Refugees (Hong Anh), 12 Constellations: Drawing the Road for Love to Run (Vu Ngoc Phuong) or Let Me Be Closer to You (Van Cong Vien).

Audiences receive invitations to watch the film at the National Cinema Center (Hanoi) from November 6 to 9 and Cinestar (HCMC) from November 5 to 13.Each audience member is allowed to register for two invitations per film.Saigon, I Love You is the opening film of the film week on November 8.

After the film week, the 20th Vietnam Film Festival took place in Da Nang from November 24 to 28 with the slogan: "Building a modern and humane film industry". The event is a major activity, aiming to honor cinematographic works with strong national identity, rich in humanity, with creative imprints, produced and popularized since the 19th Vietnam Film Festival (2015).

The festival also creates an environment for film artists, managers, producers, distributors and distributors to exchange experiences, contributing to promoting the sustainable development of Vietnamese cinema; introducing new works of Vietnamese cinema to the public, thereby understanding the needs and tastes of the public in cinema.

The event is organized by the Department of Cinema, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to honor domestic works. The program also includes activities such as seminars, film markets, film screenings and exchanges between filmmakers and audiences. Normally, the festival is held every two years, but there are years when it is interrupted. In 2015, I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass won the Golden Lotus Award.
