This afternoon, the Prime Minister candidate will be nominated.

The process of electing high-level personnel continues today with the nomination of candidates for Prime Minister, Vice President, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, and Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy. The new President will introduce the list of nominees after the inauguration this afternoon.

Early this afternoon, the National Assembly will vote to elect the President. After the voting results are announced, the new President will introduce personnel for the top positions of the executive and judicial branches.

All morning, the National Assembly held a meeting of delegations to discuss the content of the new National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung nominating Mr. Truong Tan Sang to be the President. Whether or not to introduce another candidate to "run" for the position of head of state also depends on the content and results of the discussion.

The report on the discussion results will be reviewed by the 13th Standing Committee before being announced by National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung at the plenary session in the afternoon. After final discussion to approve the list of candidates, the National Assembly will vote to elect the President.

According to the personnel work process, after being elected and taking office, the President will introduce a list of nominees for the National Assembly to elect the Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, and Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy.

National Assembly deputies have one day to consider, deliberate, and choose before deciding to vote for the positions of head of the Government, Supreme Court and Supreme Procuracy as well as personnel assisting the President on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 26.

Incumbent Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung was elected by the National Assembly as head of the Government in June 2006 at the mid-term session of the 11th National Assembly. On July 25, 2007, the 12th National Assembly continued to elect Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung as Prime Minister for the new term.

At the recent 11th National Party Congress, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung continued to be elected to the Politburo.
