Information from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on August 20 said that the Ministry has agreed to let the Vietnam Film Institute coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province to disseminate documentary films in the province from August 20-30 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Quang Tri Liberation Day and the 40th anniversary of the film "17th Parallel - Day and Night."

Films shown during the documentary week include: "The Same River;" "17th Parallel Day and Night;" (2 episodes) "Reeds;" "Sand Life;" "On the Banks of Ben Hai;" "Route 9 Front;" (2 episodes) "Quang Tri on the First Day of Liberation;" "The Returning People;" "The Meeting of Those Who Defeated the Americans in Tri Thien Hue."

After the film week ends, the film will be donated to Quang Tri province to serve political tasks.

In addition, there will be an exchange activity between artists and the film crew of “Parallel 17 Days and Nights” with the audience of Quang Tri province with the theme “Parallel 17 Days and Nights - Looking back 40 years,” as well as a source-visiting activity at some historical sites of Quang Tri province.

The film "17th Parallel Days and Nights" by director and People's Artist Hai Ninh was released in 1972 when the war of national liberation in Vietnam was at its fiercest stage. This is also one of the typical films of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema.

The film script was written by People's Artist Hai Ninh and screenwriter Hoang Tich Chi over a period of 5 years based on real people and real events, and it took 2 years to complete the film. This is also the first two-part script of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema.

The film contributed to bringing the names of People's Artist Hai Ninh and artists Tra Giang, Lam Toi, and Ho Thai to many international friends, leaving a deep impression in the hearts of audiences at home and abroad.

After the Geneva Accords of 1954, the Ben Hai River became a military demarcation line separating Vietnam into two regions. The lives of people on both sides of the river were severely affected, with most families having relatives living under two different regimes.

The film "17th Parallel Days and Nights" deals with the life and fighting of Ms. Diu (played by Tra Giang) whose husband was regrouped in the North, taking care of the family alone, waiting for the day to give birth and taking on the role of the Party cell secretary, leading the people in the area to fight against the oppression, arrest and terror of the enemy. The physical and mental torture and abuse of the villain Tran Sung (played by Lam Toi) and the enemy day and night could not shake the steadfast will of Ms. Diu and the people, justice always wins...

At the 1973 International Film Festival in Russia, the film "17th Parallel Day and Night" became the focus of attention of the press, fans, and the world cinema world. The film won the World Peace Council Award and the "Best Actress Award" for People's Artist Tra Giang.

The film not only attracts viewers with the story of confrontation and harsh choices of people on both sides of Ben Hai when the country was divided on two sides of the battle line, but also with the challenge for the film crew when making valuable footage right in the dangerous battle line...

People's Artist Hai Ninh and screenwriter Hoang Tich Chi continued to collaborate on another famous film, "Hanoi Baby."

During his film career, People's Artist Hai Ninh has made countless documentaries and movies, many of which have won major awards at domestic and international film festivals, bringing glory to Vietnam's revolutionary cinema.

In 2007, People's Artist Hai Ninh was also awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for the film series "17th Parallel Day and Night," "First Love," "City at Dawn," "Hanoi Baby," "Young Soldier".../.
