Previously, on June 27, Chile successfully defended the Copa America championship after defeating Argentina in a thrilling penalty shootout.

Although Chile are already certain to qualify for the Confederations Cup - the tournament for continental champions - in 2017, Dominguez revealed that he has submitted a proposal to UEFA to host a match between the South American and European champions.

The match is expected to be arranged to suit the schedules of the two teams, according to which Chile will begin the first matches of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in the coming months.

"We have received positive feedback from UEFA about hosting the match between the Copa America and Euro champions," Mr. Dominguez shared on his Twitter account.

The match will be a precursor to the Artemio Franchi Cup, scheduled to be held in 2018.

The Artemio Franchi has been held twice before in 1985 and 1993 between the champions of the South American and European regions.

In 1985, France beat Uruguay 2-0, before Argentina defeated Denmark in a penalty shootout in 1993.

The 2018 Franchi Cup, scheduled to be held in Milan, will feature Chile and runners-up Argentina, along with the two teams that will participate in the Euro 2016 final.
