Government regular meeting in March: GDP growth of 6.03% is the real number

Chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, today (April 1), the Government held its regular meeting for March 2015.

At the meeting, the Government will listen to and discuss the Summary Report on the supplementary assessment of the results of the implementation of the 2014 socio-economic development plan and the implementation of the 2015 socio-economic development plan; the socio-economic situation in March and the first 3 months of 2015; the Summary Report on the supplementary implementation of the 2014 State budget, the implementation of the 2015 State budget estimate; the 2013 State budget settlement report and a number of other important reports.

Reporting at the meeting on the socio-economic situation in the first quarter of 2015, Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh said that the macro-economy continues to be stable, and inflation is controlled at a low level.

The low increase in the consumer price index creates conditions for reforming prices of products and public services according to market mechanisms, while reducing input costs for businesses and promoting production and business development.

Budget collection progress was quite good; credit growth increased, interest rates decreased; exchange rates and foreign exchange markets were stable. Total social investment capital realized increased compared to the same period last year. Disbursement of ODA capital and preferential loans was quite good; FDI attraction had positive changes.

GDP in the first quarter of 2015 was much higher than the same period last year (estimated at 6.03%, the highest increase compared to the same period since 2011). Industry, especially processing and manufacturing industry, achieved high growth rates. Agricultural production developed steadily.

The service sector grew well, with total retail sales of goods and services excluding price increases doubling compared to the same period last year, showing positive signs of increased aggregate demand. Exports maintained growth momentum. Social security continued to be ensured. Political security and social order and safety were maintained.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that from the updated and supplementary report on the socio-economic situation in 2014, the results achieved were better than the reports to the National Assembly and the Central Committee.

Regarding the socio-economic situation in the first quarter of 2015, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that since the beginning of the year, ministries, branches and localities have been serious, responsible and urgent in implementing the Central Resolutions; promptly concretizing the Resolutions with specific programs and actions. Thanks to the efforts of the entire political system, authorities at all levels and the entire population, the general picture of the socio-economic situation in March and the first 3 months of the year has had positive changes in most areas. Notably, GDP in the first quarter grew by 6.03%, this figure has been carefully reviewed and this is the real figure, based on scientific calculation, according to international practice. This is the highest figure compared to the same period in the past 5 years, the increase is mainly due to the increase in industry, especially the processing and manufacturing industry.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked members of the Government to focus on discussing and clarifying issues and proposing effective solutions to overcome existing problems and limitations of the economy, such as clarifying why the agricultural consumption and export markets are facing difficulties, solutions to promote exports and the service sector; proposing effective solutions to ensure social security and welfare, limit hospital overload; support production and improve the lives of ethnic minority people...
