Officially adjusting tax increase for luxury cars
In this adjustment, some car models will have their taxes adjusted up to 22,000 USD higher than before.
Starting today (October 18), import tax rates for new and used cars will be adjusted upward.
The risk management list newly announced by the General Department of Customs will apply to dozens of commodity codes with import price risks, including new and used imported cars. Compared to previous updates to the list, the increase in this adjustment for automobiles is quite large, especially for luxury cars. This list is the basis for customs to compare and check the declared prices of importing enterprises, and this is usually the lowest level to calculate taxes for vehicles.
Luxury cars are subject to tax increases
The highest increase was on the Lexus GX 460 (new) manufactured in Japan in 2009 with an increase of 22,000 USD, up to 65,000 USD per car. Two Toyota models, the Camry LE 2.4 2008 and Venza 2009 (100% new imported), also had new floor prices of 21,000 USD and 25,000 USD respectively, an increase of 3,000 USD compared to before.
In addition to updating new prices for those car models, in this adjustment, the General Department of Customs also added a number of new car models to the risk management list, including some popular models such as Toyota RAV4 2008 (27,000 USD), Honda Accord 2010 (27,250 USD), BMW X6 2008 (57,000 USD)...
According to the General Department of Customs, the issuance of this management list helps authorities unify data information, manage tax calculation prices, thereby comparing and contrasting with the declared prices of enterprises, limiting cases of trade fraud. This is not the tax calculation price but only for comparison based on the self-declaration and responsibility of enterprises for import prices./.
