Comments on cassava raw material development planning

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 20, the Provincial People's Committee held a working session to listen to and give opinions on the cassava development plan, with the participation of representatives of leaders of a number of relevant departments and branches. Comrade Dinh Viet Hong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture, the cassava area in the area in the period 2010-2013 fluctuated from 17,000-21,000 hectares, however the area of ​​raw cassava for export accounted for only about 40%, the output of raw cassava reached over 210,000 tons for processing and export at 2 starch factories in Thanh Chuong and Yen Thanh. Thanks to that, in the mountainous districts, a number of concentrated, large-scale raw material areas associated with the processing industry have been formed, contributing to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, increasing the value of export turnover, promoting the process of industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas in the area.

However, in reality, in the past, the implementation of planning and management of cassava raw material areas has not been resolute and thorough, still spontaneous, intensive investment is limited, based on traditional experience, land exploitation, lack of connection and cooperation between enterprises and farmers in cassava production. In order for cassava to be more effective in the Western region as well as to implement Conclusion No. 47-KL/TU of the Party Committee on planning cassava raw material areas in mountainous districts, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has developed a plan to plan the development of cassava raw material areas in mountainous districts of Nghe An province until 2020, with a vision to 2030. Accordingly, the total cassava planning area is 6,420 hectares in 65 communes of 6 mountainous districts including Ky Son (8 communes), Tuong Duong (10 communes), Con Cuong (7 communes), Anh Son (17 communes), Quy Chau (10 communes) and Que Phong (13 communes). At the meeting, the leaders of relevant sectors also expressed the need to focus on: planning needs to avoid being too spread out, overlapping with crops of other projects, attracting investment in building processing factories must pay attention to capacity issues, ensuring the environment...
