"Final" admission selection for wish 2: Majors with surplus quotas, majors with shortage quotas
(Baonghean) - September 7 is the final day to end the second choice and also the time when schools start enrolling candidates who passed the first choice through the national high school exam. At this point, the overall picture of the university and college admission season for the 2015-2016 school year has basically taken shape.
Excess or shortage of local targets
On the last day of the second round of admission (NV2), the application reception area of Vinh University was still crowded with candidates coming to submit their applications. The school's hotline also continuously rang with many questions from candidates calling to ask for advice and career support. On the school's summary board, as of the morning of September 7, there were over 1,600 NV2 applications, including majors where candidates exceeded the quota. The highest was the Economic Law major, although there were only 200 quotas, the number of candidates applying was up to 309, with the predicted admission score being 21 points. Notably, among the candidates applying for NV2 to this faculty, there were candidates with very high admission scores, equal to the admission scores of the top schools in the country, such as candidates Nguyen Thi Hien with 28.25 points (Faculty of Economic Law) and Pham Thi Hien with 28.75 points (Faculty of Law).

Although the Faculty of Law and Economic Law has basically run out of quotas, on the last day the number of candidates coming to submit applications for this major is still quite large. This puts more pressure on candidates and makes the admissions situation on the last day more tense. In reality, most candidates still submit applications based on crowd psychology and do not have a clear understanding of choosing a career. Therefore, there are majors that candidates have to compete very intensely; on the contrary, there are majors that have very few candidates registering. For example, Aquaculture has only 12 applications, Journalism has 35 applications, Control and Automation Engineering has 36 applications, Electronics and Communications Engineering has 9 applications, Construction has nearly 60 applications...
In the 2016 school year, Vinh University has over 5,100 quotas. After the first round of admission, the school has recruited over 4,416 candidates (over 80%), of which many faculties have already recruited enough. In the second round with over 1,600 applications, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Binh - Head of Training Department said: Although there are some majors that do not have enough quotas, after the second round, the school will finish recruiting to ensure the quality of input for the school.
At Nghe An Pedagogical College, after the NV2 admission round, 1,020 applications/1,210 enrollment targets were received. Although this year's new admission form is predicted to be difficult for lower-ranking schools and colleges, with this result, Mr. Dang Khac Thang, Principal of the school, affirmed: This is the best enrollment result of the school in the past few years. In particular, there are many departments with excess enrollment sources such as Preschool Education and Primary Education. With over 90% of enrollment targets filled, the school has no plan to enroll NV3. However, after September 22, the school will reconsider if many candidates do not register for enrollment. The two departments with the most difficulty in recruiting students this year are English outside of Pedagogy (currently only 6 applications) and Information Technology, which has no candidates applying. The reason for this is that while setting the targets, the school closely followed the actual needs of employment. In addition, during the school year, the school promoted propaganda and directly provided consultation at 68 high schools in the province.
Concerns about "fake" candidates
Since the past 2 days, universities in the province have also started to enroll candidates. At Vinh University, with over 4,000 NV1 candidates, the school organized admission in many batches with many consulting groups, supporting and handling procedures for candidates.
In fact, because many candidates have to rush to get admitted, the number of candidates who have to enroll in majors that do not match their wishes or interests is quite high. Many candidates, for this reason, will not enroll but choose to retake the exam in the next round. This is also the reason leading to the situation of "virtual" admitted candidates. In addition, according to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Binh, Head of Training Department of Vinh University: This year, at the end of the first round, candidates with the highest scores can have the opportunity to be admitted to 4 wishes, so the school is not sure that all 4,416 admitted candidates will come to enroll.
At Vinh Medical University, the three majors that attract the most students are General Medicine, Preventive Medicine and Bachelor of Nursing, however, on the first day of admission, the number of students arriving to enroll has not reached 90%. As for the College major, only about 400 students arrived to enroll on the first day, even though the school has 800 quotas. Talking to us, teacher Nguyen Canh Phu, Vice Principal of the school, said: The school will extend the enrollment period to 20 days. If the quota is not enough, the school will consider calling for additional students.
The most worrying are the schools that accept students based on their transcripts. For example, at Nghe An University of Economics, after the second round, the school has recruited about 70% of its target, but the school's leaders are still not assured because among these, the number of candidates admitted based on their transcripts is quite large. Sharing about this, teacher Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, Vice Principal of the school, said: "According to regulations, candidates only need to have enough transcript scores according to regulations to be admitted and we have sent out notices. But during the application process, candidates only submitted photocopies of transcripts, so we cannot confirm whether they applied to any other schools other than Nghe An University of Economics or not." Teacher Dang Khac Thang, Principal of Nghe An Pedagogical College, also expressed his opinion: In theory, if a candidate has passed a school, the Ministry of Education and Training will lock the code and not allow the candidate to register for other schools. But in reality, whether it can be managed or not is uncertain. That is also the reason leading to the situation of "virtual" records.
Thus, the NV2 admission round for universities and colleges has ended. However, after NV2 admission, most of the opportunities to enter prestigious universities are not many and that will be a difficulty forcing candidates who have not passed the entrance exam to be extremely careful in NV3 admission round. According to the plan, NV3 admission round will start from October 10 to 25. NV4 admission round will start in November but only for colleges.
