(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, April 18th, in Vinh City, the Department of Information and Communications held a conference to summarize the work of disaster prevention and search and rescue in 2012 and to implement tasks for 2013. Attendees included representatives from the Information Department of Military Region 4, leaders of the Information Department of the Provincial Military Command, the Information Department of the Provincial Border Guard Command, and postal and telecommunications enterprises in the area.

In 2012, the impact of weather, storms, tropical depressions, and heavy rains caused damage to the postal and telecommunications infrastructure. In Nghe An province alone, the total damage from natural disasters was estimated at 660 million VND. The most severe damage was to the transmission stations and power sources serving these stations. To proactively respond to natural disasters such as storms and floods, the Department of Information and Communications proactively developed a plan in collaboration with agencies and units operating in the information technology sector to implement disaster prevention and rescue work in 2013. This included focusing on ensuring the safety of cable lines, microwave antennas, and BTS stations before the rainy season; promptly resolving incidents; and ensuring the smooth operation of the communication system.

Regarding the 2013 plan, the Information and Communications sector will focus on mobilizing all resources and closely coordinating efforts between the state, businesses, and the people to minimize damage to human lives and property while ensuring uninterrupted communication through all means. At the conference, the Department of Information and Communications reorganized the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention in the Information and Communications sector and assigned tasks to the members of the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue in the Information and Communications sector.
