(Baonghean) - On March 30, the Ministry of Education and Training announced university and college admissions information to provide information and support candidates in registering for the exam. Because this year's national high school exam has many new points, the education sector is also interested in admissions consulting as well as collecting, receiving, and guiding registration documents...

Strengthening admissions consulting

Information about the national high school exam such as: admission regulations, exam clusters, sample exam questions, information on regular university and college admissions in 2015 are also made public on the website of the Ministry of Education and Training. This year, this soft copy document consists of more than 1,000 pages, including the following basic contents: Name and symbol of the school, address, phone number, email and contact website of the school, code of the major, combination of subjects for admission/exam, time for admission/exam, admission area, admission conditions and other necessary information related to university and college admissions of the school.

The Ministry of Education and Training's public posting of information related to the national high school exam has created favorable conditions for information lookup for students in urban areas and places with access to IT facilities.

Nguyen Kim Nhung, class 12A1, Ha Huy Tap High School, Vinh City said: "I plan to take the entrance exam to Hanoi National Economics University, but I am still wondering about choosing a major. Therefore, the information updated on the websites of the Ministry of Education and Training is very useful, I can easily access it at home so that my parents can refer to it and help me choose a major that suits my abilities, aspirations and interests."

According to the Ministry’s leaders, for several years now, the Education and Training sector has not had a policy of publishing the book “Things to know about university and college admissions”. Therefore, most schools have plans to support students in accessing official information sources.

Nguyen Hoang Kien, class 12C3, Nghi Loc 3 High School, said that because we do not have the conditions to access the internet regularly, the information "Things to know and admission regulations" with many new points were disseminated by the school through admissions counseling sessions. The homeroom teacher also supported us by downloading information content from the Ministry's official website to disseminate in the classroom. Students who need to learn more about the universities and colleges they plan to take the exam are lent by the teacher to photocopy to register for the exam.

In mountainous areas, where access to information channels is difficult, schools pay special attention to admissions counseling. Mr. Le Thanh An, Principal of Muong Qua - Con Cuong High School, said that this year the school has 112 students participating in the national high school entrance exam. Most of them are Thai ethnic students, living in difficult villages, who do not have the conditions to update information about the exam online. Therefore, in order to provide students with complete and accurate knowledge about the national high school entrance exam with many new points, from the beginning of March until now, the school has organized 2 admissions counseling sessions for grade 12 classes to orient their careers, disseminate exam regulations and it is expected that in the coming time, when the book "Things to know" is published, the school will use it as an official document to disseminate to students. From now until April 30, the school will continue to organize 2 counseling sessions to guide students on how to fill out application forms and exam regulations...

This year, many schools have organized 2-3 career counseling and admission sessions to provide complete and accurate information related to the national high school exam. With the proactive participation of schools, it has contributed to helping parents and students feel more confident and secure before entering the exam.

Concerns

In addition to new points such as exam subjects, exam time, exam clusters, etc., in this year's national high school exam, the candidates' exam registration files also have many new points. Specifically, the units that collect the files (including 2 registration forms, 2-sided photocopies of the ID card on 1 side of A4 paper, 2 4x6 photos and an envelope with the candidate's full name and address in the file bag according to the form of the Ministry of Education and Training); must also enter data into the national high school exam management software provided by the Ministry.

At this time, schools are rushing to register with the Department of Education and Training the number of application files for candidates. It is estimated that this year, the number of application files of candidates will decrease compared to last year, because according to the regulations, each student only submits 1 set of documents. However, the biggest concern of schools is still the stage of receiving documents to enter into the exam management software.

Mr. Hoang Minh Luong, Principal of Ha Huy Tap High School, said: “The school has arranged an IT teacher and a clerical officer to collect documents. Although these officers have been trained at the Department, because this is the first year of collecting documents by entering data into the exam management software, it is difficult to avoid confusion. In addition, to scan the photo data into the software, we have to hire a photographer who specializes in this work to coordinate with the school in collecting documents. Collecting documents requires more steps, so the expected collection time will be longer than before.”

Ms. Ho Thi Thao, Quy Chau Ethnic Minority High School, stated: The school's teachers do not have the expertise to take photos, nor do they have the means to purchase a photo scanner. If students take photos themselves and then submit the files, it will be very difficult to manage. Therefore, to ensure that the application is received in accordance with the regulations set forth by the Ministry, the school must hire a photographer to do this. In addition, this year's application also requires a photocopy of the student's ID card, so the school is urgently requiring students to complete this procedure themselves. To help students register for the exam in accordance with their purpose and wishes (school, major), immediately after the application is transferred to the school by the Department, the admissions officers of Quy Chau Ethnic Minority High School will organize admissions counseling to provide detailed and specific instructions to students, and support students to complete the application registration process as soon as possible; so that they can focus on studying.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Ha, Head of the Vocational Education Department, Department of Education and Training, said: Recently, the Department has conducted training on exam management software for IT staff of district and town education departments and 91 high schools along with continuing education centers in the province. As planned, after the Ministry of Education and Training issues a document guiding the organization of the exam, the Department will continue to organize training for the team of department leaders, grassroots units and admissions officers, including content on how to fill out records and the process of registering exam records; at the same time, start selling exam registration records to independent candidates and issue records to affiliated units. In previous years, 7/21 urban districts organized the collection of records at the Department of Internal Affairs, but this year the collection of records of the districts has been transferred to the Department of Education, to facilitate data entry into the national high school exam management software system provided by the Ministry".
