Proactive prevention and control of dangerous infectious diseases in humans.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 6th, the Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of Human Diseases in Nghe An province held a meeting to reorganize its structure and implement tasks for the remaining months of 2013. Ms. Dinh Thi Le Thanh, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Head of the Steering Committee, chaired the meeting.

At the meeting, the Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of Dangerous Infectious Diseases in Humans announced the Decision to reorganize the Steering Committee with 21 members; and announced the operating regulations of the Steering Committee with specific responsibilities assigned to each member. The Department of Health was assigned as the permanent agency of the Steering Committee.

According to the Department of Health's report, thanks to effective disease prevention and control efforts and thorough preparation by local authorities and units, no outbreaks of infectious diseases occurred in the province during the first seven months of 2013. However, there were 3 cases of dengue fever; 7 deaths from rabies; 31,568 cases of influenza; 9,979 cases of diarrhea; and a number of cases of mumps, chickenpox, dysentery, and other viral encephalitis.

Concluding the meeting, Ms. Dinh Thi Le Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, requested that members of the steering committee, relevant departments, and localities continue to prioritize the prevention and control of various diseases, especially during the rainy and stormy season. She noted: Provincial steering committee members should further strengthen leadership and guidance in districts, cities, and towns in disease prevention and control; integrate disease prevention and control into the socio-economic development tasks of the locality; effectively inspect and monitor diseases from the breeding stage to the slaughter and consumption stage; improve the quality of disease prevention and control communication on key topics to ensure that people are neither complacent nor panicked; and proactively develop plans to contain outbreaks when they occur, especially during the rainy and stormy season and transitional seasons.
