(Baonghean.vn) -Given the complex weather developments, on the afternoon of July 30th, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control held a nationwide online conference to implement measures to respond to rain and floods.

According to a report from the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, the current flood situation in the northern provinces is very complex. This is the heaviest rainfall in the past 40 years, with an average daily rainfall of nearly 300 mm in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh. The heavy rain has caused flooding in many areas, resulting in significant damage to Quang Ninh province. Currently, the northern provinces still face the risk of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides due to the prolonged heavy rain over the past four days. Local authorities are focusing intensely on flood prevention and control. According to the Central Meteorological and Hydrological Center's forecast, heavy rain is likely in the mountainous areas of Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces in the coming days. Therefore, localities in the North Central region need to proactively prepare for and mitigate natural disasters.

Concluding the conference, Comrade Cao Duc Phat - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Head of the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control - requested that localities learn from experience to implement disaster prevention and control work. Accordingly, localities need to inspect areas at risk of landslides, resolutely relocate people from high-risk landslide areas; deploy personnel to put up warning signs on flooded roads...; strengthen the inspection of dam safety, for large reservoirs, assign personnel to be on duty and release floodwaters promptly to ensure reservoir safety and the safety of people in downstream areas. He requested provinces to inform fishermen and vessels operating in the Northern sea area about safe shelters; prepare sufficient means to promptly rescue people when incidents occur; and localities need to maintain continuous contact with the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control.
