Chu Hoang Dieu Linh says goodbye to Vietnam Taekwondo Team
After a few months returning from the Olympics, Hanoi female martial artist Chu Hoang Dieu Linh has officially said goodbye to the Vietnamese taekwondo team.
This was a very surprising decision because Dieu Linh is only 18 years old this year. Moreover, Dieu Linh is considered one of the talented martial artists of Vietnamese taekwondo. The proof is that at the recent 2012 Olympics in London, Dieu Linh excellently passed the qualifying round to participate with her senior Le Huynh Chau.
The information about Dieu Linh's withdrawal was confirmed by the Head of the Taekwondo Department this afternoon. Mr. Thanh also expressed regret because Dieu Linh is still too young and is one of the talented martial artists of Vietnamese Taekwondo. Before winning the ticket to London, Dieu Linh also excelled in winning a number of international awards.

“Dieu Linh’s family has asked for their daughter to be allowed to take a leave of absence. This is truly a regrettable decision, causing losses to the Vietnam Taekwondo Team, but we have to respect Linh’s family’s decision.”
It is known that right after Dieu Linh announced her retirement, both head coach Ho Anh Tuan and Mr. Thanh went to the family of this boxer to encourage her to return. However, Dieu Linh's family was still determined to ask for her to quit to study culture.
Dieu Linh's sudden retirement was a shock not only to the taekwondo leadership but also to her teammates. Many people did not think that with a bright future, a talented athlete, and an ideal physique, Dieu Linh would accept giving it all up.
Besides the reason for going to school, many people believe that the underlying reason for this sudden retirement is because the above regimes of the Taekwondo National Team are not really suitable, not helping the athletes to ensure their future.
Talking with coach Hoang Anh Tuan, it was known that for a high-class athlete with international achievements and who has just participated in the Olympics like Dieu Linh, the monthly salary is only about 4 million VND. For the remaining young athletes, it is even much lower.
Obviously, with the current treatment in the sports industry, it is not attractive enough to motivate athletes to pursue their career. It is worth mentioning that this is not the only case of leaving the team of Taekwondo as well as many other sports. Most of them are also due to the reason of not having a high income to support themselves and their families.
The case of Dieu Linh giving up is really an alarm bell for the sports industry. We spent hundreds of millions of dollars to host the 18th Asian Games but the talented athletes themselves were not given proper attention.
