Cuban President Raul Castro receives Russian Defense Minister

On February 13, Cuban President Raul Castro received Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who is on his first trip to Latin America since taking office in 2012.

According to Cuba's official press, the two sides reviewed the close historical relations between the two countries and affirmed their determination to continue strengthening cooperative relations.

Also attending the reception were Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba (FAR) Leopoldo Cintra and Deputy Minister and Chief of Staff of the FAR Álvaro López Miera.

Mr. Shoigu's visit is nominally to honor the outstanding military leader of the Cuban liberation war Antonio Maceo (1845-1896) and according to the schedule, the Russian Defense Minister will visit a number of military units, historical and cultural relics of Cuba. There is currently no information about the end time of the visit./.
