FIFA President Sepp Blatter elected for 4th term
FIFA President Sepp Blatter was re-elected for a fourth term with 186 votes in favor from 203 member federations, keeping him in office until 2015.
The 75-year-old Swiss president is the sole candidate in the June 1 vote.
The English and Scottish Football Associations wanted to postpone the vote due to allegations of corruption within the world's largest football body, but only 17 votes were cast in favour so the vote went ahead.
Mr. Sepp Blatter was re-elected for a fourth term.
"From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your trust," Mr. Blatter said before receiving a round of applause at the FIFA congress in Zurich for this resounding victory.
"Our pyramid remains strong, the foundation is stronger and together we will continue on our path and our work," he said. "We will put the FIFA ship back on its right course in clear waters. It will take time to do that, but we will do it. Today something amazing has happened and I simply want to tell you that I am thrilled and honored. This is a challenge, a new challenge for me, and I accept it."
Mr. Blatter has no rival because the most serious candidate, Mohamed Bin Hammam, president of the Asian Football Confederation, has withdrawn from the race after being suspended from office for bribery allegations.
