President Ho Chi Minh talks about the political qualities of journalists
(Baonghean.vn) - In 1959, speaking at the Second Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association, President Ho Chi Minh emphasized, "Talking about journalism is first and foremost talking about press cadres" and "press cadres are also revolutionary soldiers. Pens and paper are their sharp weapons."
With that sharp weapon, journalists have the responsibility to propagate and popularize the Party's guidelines and viewpoints, the State's policies and laws, to praise exemplary models and good examples, to fight and criticize violations of the law, negative manifestations, corruption and social evils.

President Ho Chi Minh received representatives of the “Japan Wave” Television Company and was interviewed on May 28, 1962. |
He also specified the political qualities of a journalist, including: Determining the target audience and the mission of journalism is to serve the people. Journalists must, together with compatriots and comrades across the country, wholeheartedly and wholeheartedly strive for the victory of the cause of building socialism, fighting to unify the country, and maintaining world peace.
A true journalist who is responsible to society must first of all be happy with the joy of the whole Party and the whole people, and worried about the common concerns of every challenge and difficulty of the whole society. Journalists with a sense of responsibility to society and the people always find in the vivid and heroic reality of the work of building and defending the country an endless source of topics and new materials to create quality journalistic works, encouraging and spreading the beauty and positivity in society.

President Ho Chi Minh emphasized, “The task of a journalist is important and glorious. To fulfill that task well, one must strive to study politics, improve one’s ideology, stand firmly on the proletarian class’s position, improve one’s cultural level, and delve deeply into one’s profession.” At the Third Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association (1962), President Ho Chi Minh said, “To fulfill their glorious task, press cadres must cultivate revolutionary ethics.”
Thus, from the requirement of political qualities, He mentioned another important requirement, which is the revolutionary ethics of journalists. He criticized individualism, a manifestation that goes against revolutionary ethics: "Some people only want to do something to leave their name forever. They want to write articles to show off, want to publish their articles in major newspapers. That is also not right. Those shortcomings are all born from individualism, they do not understand that: Doing anything useful for the people, for the revolution is glorious."

His reminder is still hotly topical today. In the market mechanism, many journalists are influenced by personal interests, have articles that are irresponsible, profiteering or simply chasing fame. The social responsibility and civic duty of journalists, what the press team reminds us of today, is perhaps another way of saying the concept of "firm political stance" that Ho Chi Minh mentioned many times. That is also "revolutionary ethics is to wipe out individualism" to do well the task of journalism serving the people, serving the revolution. Journalists must first of all be revolutionary cadres, working with a high sense of enlightenment, with the spirit of "overcoming the difficulties of revolutionaries".
President Ho Chi Minh's teachings "Journalists must have a firm stance" and "Politics must be mastered - if politics is right, everything is right" further demonstrate his profound political views. In the current context of the country, once again, journalists are reminded to be extremely alert, maintain a firm political stance and revolutionary ethics to fulfill their noble social responsibilities, and make worthy contributions to the nation's revolutionary cause under the leadership of the Party in the current complex international situation.
