Reporting to the President, Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association Vu Duc Giang said: In 2013, the textile and garment industry exported more than 20 billion USD, growing by 18.5%, creating jobs for more than 5 million direct workers and 2.7 million indirect workers in enterprises.
Many textile and garment enterprises are located and planned in remote areas, contributing to creating jobs for ethnic minority workers.
At large enterprises such as Viet Tien Garment, Dong Xuan Knitting, Garment 10... investment in technology innovation and design is focused on. Brand development and export market expansion are actively promoted by the units.
Enterprises also recommended that the Government supplement and adjust the Textile and Garment Industry Planning for the period 2015-2025 and orientation to 2035 to suit the new situation and conditions when Vietnam joins the TPP and FTA agreements; support vocational training for workers; prevent smuggled and poor-quality goods counterfeiting Vietnamese brands from penetrating the domestic market.
Praising the achievements of the textile and garment industry, the President said that recently, the State has been making efforts to expand the market, participating in negotiations at forums on TPP, Korea, Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan... When expanding the market, some domestic economic sectors will suffer immediate losses due to competition, but some sectors will also face opportunities for strong growth.
Therefore, the Textile and Garment industry needs to carefully study policy mechanisms and find competitive advantages to fully exploit available space.
At the same time, the President suggested that the textile and garment industry should improve the quality of its workforce, especially the team of design experts; focus on supporting industries, increase the domestic ratio, proactively supply input materials; continue to promote the building of Vietnamese textile and garment brands, and increase export turnover to 25 billion USD in the near future.
