President arrives in Washington, DC, USA

President Truong Tan Sang acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the US.

At the invitation of President of the United States of America Barack Obama, this morning (July 24), Vietnam time, President Truong Tan Sang and his high-ranking delegation arrived in Washington, DC to begin an official visit to the United States from July 24-26.

Welcoming the President at Andrew Airport were US Ambassador to Vietnam David Shear, representatives of the US State Department, Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Cuong, staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States and the Vietnamese community in the United States.

US Ambassador to Vietnam David Shear, representatives of the US Department of State, officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in the United States welcomed President Truong Tan Sang at Andrew military airport.

This is President Truong Tan Sang’s first official visit to the United States as President. The visit takes place at a time when cooperation between the two countries continues to be promoted, especially in economics, trade, investment, science and technology and education. Specific cooperation mechanisms have been established and are being implemented in many fields.

The visit aims to promote Vietnam-US relations, especially in Vietnam's priority areas such as economy, trade, expanding export markets, attracting investment, science, technology, etc.; to have frank and constructive exchanges, expressing Vietnam's attitude on issues in bilateral relations and regional and international issues of concern to both sides.

Immediately after arriving in Washington, the President and his delegation visited and talked with the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the US. On behalf of the embassy staff, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong reported to the President on the activities of the Vietnamese Embassy in recent times.

As a diplomatic agency with the largest number of staff in the industry, over the past time, the unit has played the role of a bridge in the diplomatic relations between the two countries, actively performing its tasks, thoroughly implementing the foreign policy of the Party and State, participating in successfully organizing bilateral meetings and promotion activities, supporting businessmen and intellectuals, contributing to promoting the relations between the two countries in many fields.

Speaking with the staff of the Embassy, ​​President Truong Tan Sang acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the US. The President emphasized that the Vietnam-US relationship has gone through 18 years of normalization and there are still some differences, but the trend of cooperation is still the main one, expanding from economic cooperation to the fields of economics, education, science, national defense and security, and foreign politics.

To achieve the current diplomatic achievements, in the context of many difficulties and challenges, the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy have made great efforts. In the coming time, the positive, friendly, constructive partnership, multi-faceted cooperation, mutual respect and mutual benefit between the two countries will be upgraded. Many cooperation contents between the two countries will continue to be implemented with a higher scale, nature and level of certainty.

The Vietnam-US relationship poses new requirements, requiring embassy staff to make constant efforts. The implementation of work will inevitably encounter difficulties, requiring diplomatic staff to be extremely persistent and persuasive in order to increase cooperation with friends and partners.

The President asked the embassy staff to actively implement the commitments and agreements between the two sides, promote high-level visits, and facilitate cooperation between ministries, sectors, and localities of the two countries in socio-economic fields.

The President wished all officials and staff of the Embassy to continue achieving further results in promoting the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the United States in depth, stability and effectiveness, contributing positively to the cause of protecting, building and developing the country./.
