President attends press awards ceremony for anti-corruption work

President Tran Dai Quang attended and delivered a speech at the award ceremony. Also present were Politburo members: Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh; Head of the Central Propaganda Department Vo Van Thuong; Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, along with leaders of departments, ministries, branches, the Fatherland Front, organizations and representatives of press agencies nationwide.

The organization of the tournament aims to strongly promote the participation of people and the whole society, including the extremely important and pioneering role of press agencies in the fight against corruption and waste.

The works participating in the award, especially the works selected for the final round, were awarded for their good professional quality, sharp and honest information, demonstrating the high responsibility of journalists, their spirit of dedication, regardless of all difficulties and dangers to have good journalistic works, with high fighting spirit and profound humanity.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Tran Dai Quang commended and congratulated the award-winning authors and groups of authors.

The President said that preventing and combating corruption and waste is both an urgent and long-term task for the entire Party, people and army. This is a difficult and complicated task, requiring high political determination, resolute, persistent, continuous and effective struggle from the central to the grassroots levels.

Party committees, cadres, and party members, first and foremost senior leaders, must truly take the lead and set an example, using the combined strength of the Party organization, the State apparatus, the Fatherland Front, unions, people, and mass media in the fight against corruption and waste.

President Tran Dai QuangRequesting departments, ministries, branches and localities to continue to effectively implement the Resolution of the 4th Conference of the Party Central Committee (12th Tenure) on strengthening Party building and rectification; preventing and repelling the degradation of political ideology, morality and lifestyle, manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the Party in conjunction with implementing Directive No. 05 of the Politburo (12th Tenure) on promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle. At the same time, further promote the role and responsibility of the press, especially valuing objectivity, truthfulness and professionalism; upholding the social responsibility, civic duty and professional ethics of journalists in detecting, fighting against corruption, waste, political, ideological, moral and lifestyle degradation and other negative manifestations in social life.

The President also requested ministries, sectors, and localities to proactively coordinate to combat and refute wrong views and foil plots and activities of hostile and reactionary forces that take advantage of the fight against corruption and waste to sabotage the Party and State.

"Strengthen coordination between the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnam Journalists Association, press agencies and relevant authorities in handling corruption and waste cases discovered by the press and protecting journalists and those who denounce corruption and waste" - President Tran Dai Quang emphasized.

At the award ceremony, Party and State leaders awarded certificates of merit to the excellent authors and groups of authors who won the first National Press Award "Press with the work of fighting against corruption and waste" - 2017, including 31 press works: including 2 A prizes, 7 B prizes, 10 C prizes, 12 consolation prizes.
