President meets Viet Minh soldiers in Hoang Dieu citadel
The Party and State always appreciate and respect the contributions and sacrifices of the Viet Minh soldiers in Hoang Dieu citadel.
Towards the 68th anniversary of the August Revolution in 1945, on the afternoon of July 16, at the Presidential Palace, President Truong Tan Sang had a friendly meeting with 24 delegates representing the Viet Minh soldiers of Hoang Dieu citadel - those who went down in history and made great contributions to the August Revolution in 1945.
In an intimate and emotional atmosphere, President Truong Tan Sang and delegates reviewed the heroic tradition of the army and people of the capital in general and the feats of the Viet Minh soldiers of Hoang Dieu citadel in particular.
In the "critical" context of 1940-1941, the revolutionary forces in the capital were fiercely suppressed, many loyal communist soldiers were arrested. Faced with that situation, in 1942, Uncle Ho and the Party Central Committee directed the Hanoi Party Committee to rebuild Party organizations in the inner city, promote the work of gathering the masses to protest, creating the Viet Minh movement to transform the inner city.
The President warmly received Viet Minh soldiers in Hoang Dieu citadel.
From then on, the movement developed strongly throughout Hanoi with many forms such as: distributing leaflets, posting posters, giving speeches at cinemas, factories, schools, eliminating evil... making the reputation of the Viet Minh organization increasingly resound, the people were ready to support the Viet Minh, creating strength, the peak of which was the stormy march that led to the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
Nearly 70 years have passed, of the hundreds of Viet Minh soldiers of the past, there are now only about 140 people left and they are over 80 years old, old and weak, but the delegates all affirmed their steadfast loyalty to the Party and State.
The delegates also wished that Hanoi would name a street after August Revolution and confer the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces on the Hoang Dieu Citadel Youth Volunteer Team.
Speaking to delegates, President Truong Tan Sang highly appreciated the great feats of the Viet Minh soldiers in Hoang Dieu citadel in the past, who contributed to the August Revolution with the whole country.
This victory has great historical significance and is a valuable lesson in mass mobilization work in the cause of nation building today.
Taking note of the delegates' recommendations, the President affirmed that he would forward them to the relevant authorities for consideration and resolution in the coming time.
The President affirmed: The Party and State are always grateful and respect the contributions and sacrifices of the Viet Minh soldiers of Hoang Dieu citadel in particular and the policy beneficiaries and meritorious people in general. Showing gratitude is a regular task that demonstrates the tradition of our nation. The President wished the delegates good health and continued to be shining examples for the younger generation to follow./.
