President holds bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Belt and Road Forum
According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the afternoon of May 14, on the occasion of attending the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, China, President Tran Dai Quang met with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawar Sharif and Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, Chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Toshihiro Nakai.

At a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawar Sharif, President Tran Dai Quang affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the friendly and cooperative relationship with Pakistan. In the context of the two countries celebrating the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations (November 8, 1972 - November 8, 2017), the President expressed his hope that the two sides would promote practical activities and increase exchanges and delegations at all levels on this occasion.
President Tran Dai Quang suggested that the two sides continue to maintain and promote the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, promote negotiations and sign cooperation agreements in the fields of culture, sports, tourism, aviation and maritime transport to create a favorable legal corridor for expanding cooperation in related fields.
Affirming that the two countries have great potential for cooperation in all aspects, President Tran Dai Quang hopes that both sides will strive to bring their cooperative relationship to a new height. Accordingly, the two sides will increase high-level meetings, cooperation between ministries, sectors and economic activities, including promoting the strengths of each country, bringing trade turnover to 1 billion USD soon within the next three years.
President Tran Dai Quang also suggested that the two countries expand cooperation at multilateral forums, coordinate in preventing and combating transnational crimes, and soon sign mutual legal assistance agreements.
For his part, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawar Sharif affirmed that he considers Vietnam an important partner in the region, wishes to further promote relations with Vietnam, and welcomes current mechanisms between the two countries.
The Pakistani government highly appreciated Vietnam's development achievements, believed that the two countries still have much potential for cooperation and agreed to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of economy and trade...
At the meeting with Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan and Chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Union Toshihiro Nakai, President Tran Dai Quang and Mr. Toshihiro Nakai were pleased to note that the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries has developed well in various fields in recent times.
The President highly appreciated the sentiments towards Vietnam and the great contributions of Mr. Toshihiro Nakai to promoting the relationship between the two countries and hoped that in the coming time, the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, as well as Mr. Toshihiro Nakai himself, would continue to contribute to promoting the further development of the Vietnam-Japan relationship.
In order to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two countries, President Tran Dai Quang proposed to further promote visits and contacts at all levels, especially at the high level and between parliamentarians of the two countries, to deploy and implement high-level agreements on economic cooperation; to support continued support for official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam, and to cooperate in all fields and at all levels. Vietnam supports the expansion of international trade, welcomes Japanese investors, cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges.
Secretary General Toshihiro Nakai highly appreciated Vietnam's position and role in the region and supported Vietnam to successfully organize the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2017, an event of great significance in the current international context.
Mr. Toshihiro Nakai affirmed that Japan attaches importance to and wishes to further promote the Japan-Vietnam Extensive Strategic Partnership, and highly appreciates the dynamic cooperation and exchange between the two countries' National Assemblies.
Secretary General Toshihiro Nakai said that in his capacity as Chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, he will further promote relations between the two countries' parliaments, contributing to the continued development of the Japan-Vietnam Extensive Strategic Partnership.
On the same evening, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, President Tran Dai Quang and his wife attended a reception hosted by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife to welcome the Heads of Delegations and their Wives attending the 2017 Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation./.
