President meets with Philippine President and US corporations
On November 9, on the occasion of attending the 22nd APEC Summit in China, President Truong Tan Sang met with Philippine President Benigno Aquino.

On this occasion, President Truong Tan Sang invited President Benigno Aquino to visit Vietnam. President Benigno Aquino accepted the invitation and also invited the President to soon return to visit the Philippines.
The two leaders also discussed orientations to promote cooperation in the fields of politics, foreign affairs, economics, trade, finance, education, culture, tourism, and maritime and ocean cooperation. They agreed to vigorously implement measures to bring trade turnover to 3 billion USD by 2016.
The two leaders discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, agreeing to closely coordinate to maintain peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation in the region, and peacefully resolve disputes on the basis of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The two sides also agreed to closely cooperate to successfully build the ASEAN community in 2015, and support each other when the Philippines hosts APEC 2015 and Vietnam hosts APEC 2017.
Also on the afternoon of November 9, President Truong Tan Sang had a discussion with leaders of more than 30 leading US corporations representing the US-APEC Business Alliance.

President Truong Tan Sang emphasized that after nearly 20 years of establishing diplomatic relations, Vietnam-US relations have seen many positive developments, especially the establishment of a comprehensive partnership. Economic, trade and investment relations have developed strongly with two-way trade reaching nearly 30 billion USD, an increase of more than 60 times compared to the time the two countries established diplomatic relations.
The President highly appreciated that many US corporations have become reliable partners, committed to long-term investment in Vietnam, and actively contributed to the development of bilateral relations. The President also affirmed Vietnam's efforts in restructuring the economy and perfecting the legal framework in the fields of foreign investment, finance, and banking to create more favorable conditions and environment for foreign investors, including US partners.
Representatives of the US business community highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese Government in restructuring the economy, creating favorable conditions for US businesses to expand investment and business projects in Vietnam. US businesses also expressed confidence in the potential and bright prospects of the Vietnamese economy. US businesses believe that the early conclusion of TPP negotiations will not only benefit the US and Vietnam but also the entire Asia-Pacific region; affirming to support Vietnam in improving its capacity and being ready to share experiences in implementing its commitments.
The President affirmed that Vietnam is making great efforts to access regional and global value chains, create jobs and improve people's lives; expressed the desire to move towards a comprehensive and balanced Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, taking into account the diversity of development levels of its members; asked US businesses to urge the US Government to remove trade barriers to Vietnamese goods, and respond to events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations in 2015.
