President visits China: Comprehensive strategic cooperation, stable and healthy development

President Tran Dai Quang's visit to China takes place in the context of Vietnam-China relations continuing to develop positively in recent times, reaching an important common perception on continuing to promote the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to develop stably and healthily.

At the invitation of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, from May 11-15, 2017, President Tran Dai Quang and his wife will pay a State visit to China and attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, held in Beijing, China.

This is President Tran Dai Quang's first state visit to China after the 12th National Party Congress, the 14th National Assembly elected a new leadership, and his first visit to China as President.

The visit took place in the context of Vietnam-China relations continuing to develop positively in recent times. Senior leaders of the two Parties and countries have maintained regular contact and reached an important common understanding on continuing to promote the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to develop stably and healthily.

President Tran Dai Quang will visit China from May 11-15, 2017 at the invitation of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed: Vietnam persistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification. Vietnam attaches importance to developing stable and long-term relations with China, supports China's strong development, and promotes its active and responsible role in maintaining peace, stability, and promoting cooperation and development in the region and internationally.

During this visit, the two countries' senior leaders will continue to consolidate the traditional friendship, enhance political trust; improve the effectiveness of cooperation in all fields, especially in economics, trade and investment. Control disagreements, maintain peace and stability in the East Sea, do not expand disputes, complicate the situation, promote negotiations on maritime issues between the two countries to achieve substantive progress, fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), soon reach a Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC), and not let maritime issues affect the relationship between the two countries.

After 3 years of launching the “Belt and Road” initiative, China has made some important progress, mobilizing international support, preparing finance, legal framework and implementing specific projects, laying the foundation to concretize the initiative into an official cooperation framework with the first step being the organization of the “Belt and Road” International Cooperation High-Level Forum. This forum has the theme “Belt and Road: Cooperation for Common Prosperity”.

President Tran Dai Quang visited China and attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation to maintain the momentum of development of relations between the two Parties and countries, strengthen political trust between senior leaders of the two countries, and promote the improvement of the effectiveness of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, etc.

Vietnam welcomes initiatives and efforts to promote international integration and regional connectivity when China organizes the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Vietnam is ready to cooperate with China and other countries to build and implement programs and projects for the purpose of peace, development and prosperity, on the basis of the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, compliance with the United Nations Charter and international law, and respect for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of participating countries.
