President receives former US President Bill Clinton
Former US President Bill Clinton is visiting Vietnam to celebrate the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
On the afternoon of July 2, at the Presidential Palace, President Truong Tan Sang received former US President Bill Clinton; expressed his joy at meeting former US President Bill Clinton again on the occasion of the two countries celebrating 20 years of normalizing diplomatic relations.
The President affirmed that the path of reconciliation is an important premise for today's results, and the achievements over the past 20 years have had great contributions from former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The President emphasized that Vietnam always considers Mr. and Mrs. Clinton as close friends and wished Mr. Bill Clinton's visit to Vietnam a great success.
The President expressed his delight that in recent years, the two sides have regularly exchanged delegations at all levels and sectors. During these exchanges, disagreements have been narrowed and new cooperation opportunities have opened up between the two countries.
Looking back at 20 years of normalization, it can be affirmed that the two sides have achieved very good results. Both sides have been making efforts to remove existing obstacles to further promote cooperation. In particular, the upcoming visit to the United States by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong demonstrates the trust in political cooperation between the two countries. In the field of trade and economy, the two sides have made strong progress.
The President welcomed US ministries and agencies to support Vietnam in negotiating with the US and with member countries to reach the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement. At the same time, the two sides will promote cooperation in education, overcoming post-war consequences, national security and defense, etc.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the President welcomed the US stance and affirmed that Vietnam always wants to resolve disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law, including the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea, comply with the DOC and move towards reaching a COC agreement.
Former President Bill Clinton was delighted to return to visit Vietnam and said that the normalization of relations between the two countries is a typical example of reducing disagreements, in the context of many conflicts in the world, and emphasized that reconciliation has created momentum for the development of the two countries as well as the region.
Recalling memories of Vietnam, former President Bill Clinton said he looked forward to and welcomed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's upcoming visit to the United States.
Discussing the East Sea issue, former President Bill Clinton said that there can be no unilateral action. All parties must respect each other, share responsibility, resolve all disputes through dialogue and with the participation of all relevant parties.
Appreciating the rapid growth in economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, especially after 2 years of establishing a comprehensive partnership, former President Bill Clinton said that in the new phase of TPP negotiations, there is support from parties and US congressmen like in the normalization phase 20 years ago.
The two sides resolving the difficulties and soon signing this Agreement will be a breakthrough in economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and member countries in the region./.
