President receives US Trade Representative
The United States always supports Vietnam to become an economically prosperous, independent, and deeply integrated country.
On the evening of October 22, at the Presidential Palace, President Truong Tan Sang received Ambassador Michael Froman - US Trade Representative, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.
At the reception, President Truong Tan Sang highly appreciated the significance of Mr. Michael Froman's visit and expressed his joy at the positive developments in the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the United States.

The Chairman sent his regards to President Obama and the US leaders, expressing his anticipation of the visit of the US President and Vice President.
The President thanked the United States for supporting Vietnam's stance, especially on the East Sea issue, at regional and international forums; contributing to maintaining peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
The President welcomed the coordination between ministries and sectors of Vietnam and the United States to implement the comprehensive partnership in all fields, including trade and economy.
In that spirit, the President hopes that the United States will pay more attention to the ASEAN Community as a major partner of the United States in the region.
Emphasizing the importance of TPP negotiations in bilateral relations, the President said that Vietnam will make maximum efforts to narrow the economic gap with countries in the region.
The President also agreed that the two sides had made important progress in negotiations, and hoped that Vietnam and the United States would sincerely cooperate and promote the negotiation process to soon achieve success.
Sharing the discussion of Mr. Michael Froman about TPP, the President stated that Vietnam will actively approach international criteria and standards, especially ILO because Vietnam is also a member of this organization.
Most recently, Vietnamese fishermen have proactively established a fishing union. This shows that through meetings, exchanges, and negotiations, the views between the two sides are getting closer.
In addition, with the remaining points, Vietnam and the United States will continue to discuss to reach common understanding.
The President also proposed that the United States soon approve the lifting of the ban on the sale of lethal weapons to Vietnam.
The President believes that with the goodwill of both sides, the following work will develop well.
Vietnam continues to listen, exchange and approach criteria that are consistent with Vietnamese and world traditions and laws.
Mr. Michael Froman highly appreciated the contents of the joint statement affirmed in the high-level meetings between Vietnam and the United States.
Mr. Michael Froman was pleased to note that since the Bilateral Trade Agreement between the two countries was signed, Vietnam's socio-economy has grown increasingly stronger.
Mr. Michael Froman emphasized that with the TPP negotiations, the two sides are at a crucial, important moment.
Informing the President of the important points in the negotiation with the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Froman highly appreciated Vietnamese fishermen for establishing a fishing union and said that with such an approach, the two sides would soon reach a consensus.
Mr. Froman stated that when the TPP is signed, Vietnam will gain many benefits, including promoting investment attraction.
The United States hopes that Vietnam will meet the conditions on intellectual property, environment, and labor according to international regulations.
