On the afternoon of June 27, at the Presidential Palace, President Truong Tan Sang had a cordial meeting with the delegation of officers and soldiers who participated in the fight to protect the ancient citadel of Quang Tri province in 1972, on the occasion of the delegation's visit to Hanoi. The meeting was one of the activities expressing the gratitude of the Party and State to the brave and indomitable soldiers in the Campaign to liberate Quang Tri province and the 81-day and night battle to protect the ancient citadel in the past.



Moved by the President's meeting and visiting the Presidential Palace, the delegates recalled the glorious memories and the steadfast battles that demonstrated the determination to fight and win of our army and people 40 years ago, fighting to protect Quang Tri Citadel. The delegates recommended that the Party and State pay more attention to implementing the military rear policy; support the lives of families of war invalids and martyrs to overcome difficulties in life; and prioritize investment in socio-economic development of Quang Tri - a land that suffered many heavy losses during the war.

Expressing deep emotion at meeting and visiting the delegation of officers and soldiers who participated in protecting the Quang Tri Citadel in 1972, President Truong Tan Sang stated that these days, 40 years ago, our army and people launched an offensive campaign, smashing the military apparatus and the puppet government of the US and the puppet regime in Quang Tri. This victory had profound epochal significance; was strategically important, contributing to the historic Great Victory of Spring 1975 for our army and people.

The President affirmed: The Party and State are forever deeply grateful for the noble sacrifices of heroes and martyrs, including the brave and selfless fight of soldiers of Quang Tri Citadel for the revolutionary cause of national liberation and national reunification.

The President highly appreciated the activities of the Quang Tri Province Ancient Citadel Soldiers Association, especially those with noble and profound humane meanings, such as organizing trips to visit old battlefields, helping comrades, and expressed his hope that in the coming time, he would continue to receive contributions from cadres, generals, Heroes of the Armed Forces and the Executive Committee of the Quang Tri Province Ancient Citadel Soldiers Association for the cause of national construction and development...

In an emotional atmosphere filled with comradeship, representatives of the Quang Tri Province Citadel Soldiers Association respectfully presented President Truong Tan Sang with the Quang Tri Citadel Protection Medal.
