President Truong Tan Sang visits Lao veteran leaders

During the visit and work program in Laos,On the morning of March 24, President Truong Tan Sang visited comrade Khamtay Siphandone, former Party Chairman and President, and comrade Saman Vinhaket, former National Assembly Chairman and former Head of the Central Steering Committee for Ideology, Theory and Culture of Laos.

According to VNA special correspondent, Comrade Khamtay Siphandone expressed his pleasure to meet President Truong Tan Sang again during the meaningful visit, bringing the sentiments of the Vietnamese people to the country and people of Laos, right on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 40th anniversary of the Lao PDR's National Day. He suggested that the leaders of the two countries continue to regularly organize high-level meetings to inform each other about the situation in the country, share about topics of mutual interest, contributing to raising the level of Vietnam-Laos relations, and fostering the friendship between the two Parties and peoples to be sustainable and everlasting.

Inquiring about the health of President Truong Tan Sang, Comrade Khamtay Siphandone highly appreciated the results of the talks between President Truong Tan Sang and General Secretary and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone. He affirmed that the commitments between the two leaders demonstrated a consistent, loyal and steadfast policy in the relationship between the two countries. He highly appreciated the socio-economic achievements of the Vietnamese people and said that the results achieved in Vietnam's innovation and integration process are always lessons for many countries in the world.

Comrade Khamtay Siphandone hopes that in his capacity as State leader, President Truong Tan Sang will continue to make many contributions to the relationship between the two countries, helping Laos successfully organize political events and develop socio-economy in 2015.

President Truong Tan Sang expressed his emotion when returning to the peaceful and friendly country of Laos for the third time during his term. He wished comrade Khamtay Siphandone good health and that with his prestige and experience in leading the country, he would continue to foster the relationship between the two countries. The President was delighted to witness Laos develop, achieve many achievements, and affirm its position.

The President emphasized that the world and regional situation may still have many fluctuations, but the faithful relationship between the two countries through many historical periods further affirms their close connection, sharing hardships and a common destiny for survival.

Welcoming President Truong Tan Sang at his private residence, in a cozy room that holds many souvenirs and photos with leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State in solemn positions, Comrade Saman Vinhaket, former Chairman of the National Assembly, Head of the Central Steering Committee for Ideology, Theory and Culture of Laos, was moved to say that President Truong Tan Sang's visit to Laos was a great source of encouragement for the Lao People's Revolutionary Party on the occasion of the great founding anniversary of the Party and the country.

Recalling the profound memories between the leaders of the two countries, Comrade Saman Vinhaket emphasized that on occasions commemorating important historical events of the country, the Lao people always remember the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh, who together with Lao predecessors led the revolutionary movement to success. The historical context in the past has linked the two Parties and two peoples, guiding each other in the struggle for independence.

The Lao people always cherish friendship and pass on traditions to the younger generations, considering this a priceless asset that needs to be preserved for future generations. Listening to and agreeing with Comrade Saman Vinhaket on the policies to enhance the relationship between the two countries, President Truong Tan Sang sincerely wished Comrade Saman Vinhaket good health and wisdom; and together with the leaders of the Lao Party and State to direct the successful implementation of socio-economic tasks, successfully organize Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 10th Party Congress.

On the same day, President Truong Tan Sang visited the memorial site of the late President, Prince Souphanouvong.

The President was moved to remember the President, Prince Souphanouvong, an outstanding son of the Lao people, a heroic and resilient revolutionary leader, respected and loved by the masses, a loyal friend and comrade in arms of the Vietnamese people who made many great and valuable contributions to building and developing the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos.

President Truong Tan Sang wrote in his guestbook: "The Party, State and people of Vietnam always respect and remember the good feelings and great contributions of President Souphanouvong to the cause of fighting for national independence and the cause of national construction and development of Vietnam; at the same time, we are ready to do our utmost to, together with the Party, State and people of all Lao ethnic groups, preserve and develop the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos to be forever green and everlasting."
