From May 29-30, 2013, at the invitation of Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Anthony Lake paid an official visit to Vietnam and attended the Global Launch of UNICEF's Report on "The State of the World's Children 2013". On the afternoon of May 29 at the Presidential Palace, President Truong Tan Sang received Mr. Anthony Lake.

At the reception, the President emphasized that the Vietnamese State always gives priority to the care, education and protection of children, and pays attention to fully implementing international commitments.

The President affirmed that one of the important goals of the current socio-economic development process is to perfect the legal framework and build a judicial system favorable for the development of children.

The President expressed his gratitude and appreciation for UNICEF's support for Vietnam over the years; at the same time, in the face of the challenges Vietnam is facing, he asked UNICEF to continue to actively support, especially in the areas of building mechanisms and policies, increasing access to essential services, and monitoring the protection and promotion of children's rights...

The President also asked UNICEF to pay more attention to supporting disabled children, including victims of Agent Orange and victims of remaining bombs and mines.

Mr. Anthony Lake was pleased with the achievements Vietnam has made in socio-economic development.

Mr. Anthony Lake acknowledged the strong commitments and appreciated Vietnam's progress in child care and protection in recent times; expressed his wish to promote a good and long-term cooperative relationship with Vietnam, continue to support Vietnam to realize socio-economic development goals, enhance the sustainability of achievements in implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and complete the remaining goals as well as support the enhancement of child care and protection, especially the equitable development between regions and target groups; strengthen the data system on children; support the completion and consolidation of the legal framework for child care and protection...

On the same day, Mr. Anthony Lake visited Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, worked with Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, and Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen./.
