National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan meets with Indian Prime Minister
On December 9, within the framework of her official visit to the Republic of India, President Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Expressing her pleasure at meeting the Indian Prime Minister again after his visit to Vietnam in September 2016, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan respectfully conveyed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi the greetings and regards of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Vietnamese leaders.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan congratulated India on its great achievements in national construction and development, especially in the fields of economy, science and technology, and national security and defense, increasingly enhancing India's role and position in the region and the world.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expressed her delight at the important progress in the cooperation between the two countries over the past 45 years. In particular, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Vietnam in September 2016, the two countries upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, creating a new important framework to make bilateral cooperation more trustworthy, deeper and more substantial in all areas.
2017 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and India. President Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan suggested that the two sides coordinate to organize well the commemorative activities and promote the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Over the past time, the bilateral economic and trade relations between Vietnam and India have been constantly developing. Two-way trade turnover has increased gradually over the years since the two countries established a strategic partnership. However, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that the potential for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is still very large.
Therefore, the two sides need to further promote measures, create breakthroughs in trade exchanges, and create a favorable environment for investors and businesses to bring two-way trade turnover to the target of 15 billion USD by 2020 as set by the two countries' senior leaders.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan affirmed that Vietnam supports and encourages Indian oil and gas companies to participate in the open oil and gas block on Vietnam's continental shelf; requests Indian partners to study other cooperation opportunities that are Petrovietnam's strengths; hopes that India will introduce and create conditions for Vietnam to participate in cooperation in potential oil and gas projects in India and third countries.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan highly appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's great contributions to the good friendship between Vietnam and India; and hoped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would continue to pay attention and direct the development of the bilateral relationship, for the benefit of the two peoples, for peace, development and prosperity in the region and the world.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly on their official visit to the Republic of India; expressed his good impressions of the country and people of Vietnam after his visit to Vietnam in September 2016.
The Indian Prime Minister also expressed his delight that during this visit, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly attended two sessions of the Indian Senate and House of Representatives.
Regarding the East Sea issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed that India supports negotiations and the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, on the basis of respect for international law.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India and Vietnam have a long-standing, traditional friendship, which is a precious heritage for future generations. The two countries need to preserve, nurture and develop it to new heights.
The Indian Prime Minister said that Indian investors are very impressed with Vietnam's investment environment; at the same time, he affirmed his support for Indian investors to come to Vietnam to produce and do business.
