Chinese President Ready to Meet Trump Team

China's vice foreign minister says Beijing is willing to arrange meetings with Trump's team at the World Economic Forum.

"China has good relations with the current US government and also has smooth communication channels with the Trump team," SCMP quoted Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong as saying at a press conference today.

Mr. Li said that a bilateral meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and members of US President-elect Donald Trump's team could take place later this month at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

The forum was held from January 15 to 18, before Mr. Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States on January 20.

Mr. Xi is eager to introduce China's roadmap with an orientation towards economic globalization, in the context of some countries criticizing Beijing for increasing protectionism with domestic goods.

Commenting on Mr. Xi's change of tradition, personally attending the WEF instead of sending a vice prime minister or prime minister to attend, Mr. Li said that the Chinese President received "invitations for many years from the WEF President.Klaus Schwab".

The global economy is said to be facing a dark outlook as Mr Trump has declared that he does not value international trade agreements. Economic risks are also rising as the US trade war with China and Mexico escalates as Mr Trump seeks to create more jobs at home to “make America great again”.

Foreign businesses in China have criticized Beijing for restricting market access and unfairly subsidizing Chinese competitors. The country has also been accused of dumping surplus products on world markets.
