Chairman of Hoang Sa District People's Committee protests China's military exercises in Phu Lam
Regarding the announcement by the Hainan Provincial Government (China) on January 6 of "establishing four People's Armed Forces Committees in Sansha" as well as China's organization of military exercises on Phu Lam Island, which belongs to Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago, on January 8, Mr. Vo Cong Chanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Sa District, Da Nang City, said that Hoang Sa archipelago belongs to Vietnam's sovereignty.
Since January 19, 1974, China has used force to illegally occupy Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago. All of China's actions in this archipelago are unjust, violate Vietnam's sovereignty and go against international law, especially the International Convention on the Law of the Sea.
China's unilateral actions in the Hoang Sa archipelago and the East Sea in recent times are seriously threatening the security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea and the maritime interests of countries around the world, threatening friendly relations, peace, stability and development in the region.
"We protest and demand that China immediately stop illegal activities on Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago as well as in the East Sea to maintain peaceful, friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and in the region," Mr. Vo Cong Chanh emphasized./.
